About this artwork
The painting-Cloud Cover became an ever-changing landscape which was a record of an unfolding event gaining more intensity. From clear blue skies to a city shrouded with smoke clouds, became a daily event. The canvas began to alter when intuition took over and the blue sky became whitewashed and then gradually built up with the delicacy and swiftness of the oil paint. The wiping back of the top layers was pure enjoyment as suddenly from nowhere… a not anticipated landscape emerged out of the cloud cover in the bottom areas of the canvas. This was the start of a hot 2019 spring in the southern hemisphere.

Marissa Zaknich is an experienced painter and photographer based in Australia whose works have been widely exhibited nationally. She describes her art as translating the experience of remembering and how memory explores connections between psychology and geography. In her artistic process, Zaknich most often creates with oils and acrylics on canvas, employing multiple glazing techniques. Her photographic themes seek opaque and transparent layers to show the fleeting nature of remembered moments.
