About this artwork
This is a painting from a series called Fragments from The Past, made during the Pandemic. The first layers of these paintings are all from paintings that were started before Covid-19. In Spring 2021 Marit Geraldine wanted to continue working on these studies, but immediately felt resistance to moving forward. She was trying to continue a conversation from the past but the original nerve was gone… Each layer reminded her of something a bit lost,… so she figured out she had to adjust her own perspective. She had to continue the dialogue with a new mindset, keeping parts of the painting as it was, but adding a distance and space to it. New learning. The artist said this study reminded her to keep old memories alive but to always listen to new impulses – so we can continue to live and adapt.
« It´s all about unlearning, finding your own inner voice - well hidden among echoes from our society »
Marit Geraldine Bostad is a Norwegian abstract colourist whose work has been exhibited internationally and most recently selected for the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize shortlist. Geraldine’s paintings investigate themes such as the inner psyche, nature and memory, expressed as pure abstraction through her unique approach to the Nordic colour tradition.
