About this artwork
Equinox-1 is an assemblage representing the different stages of the summer equinox juxtaposing different positions of the suns celestial path and interplay with time and space. It's is a vibrant fusion of acrylic, watercolour, and found objects including discarded car parts such as shock absorbers, clutch housings and clutch plates. This assemblage has chaos and order combining abstract elements in painting and sculpture with symbolic forms, sparking… the imagination and a profound sense of connection to the unseen rhythms of life.
Mark Richard Parkin is a multidisciplinary artist with classical training, whose background spans prestigious art education in Canada, Europe, and the UK, and extensive international teaching experience. His work skillfully blends traditional oil, watercolor, drawing, and printmaking techniques with bold experimentation, often incorporating organic materials and found objects in a surrealist, assemblage style. He conjures dreamlike worlds through direct brushwork, layering, and meticulous detail, creating thought-provoking juxtapositions that explore consciousness, science, and the borders of reality. His art pulses with psychological intensity, inviting viewers into worlds of existential wonder and introspective emotion.
