This cross is a prayer.
His wife's death almost made him lose all hope of living. Memories of the woman he loved left his eyes wandering aimlessly.
The 15 years we spent together,
I kept thinking about it over and over again,
Even so, we still have to keep living.
Looking back on the time when those two were together, I still find hope for life and start walking again.
And the rest of my life.

Masanobu Oda is a Japanese contemporary artist using ballpoint pen, gesso, and charcoal, with a background marked by personal loss that shapes her deeply introspective practice. HIs technique layers instinctive, chance-driven pen lines with gesso, then disrupts them with white, manipulation, and alcohol, creating haunting fragments that hover between abstraction and figuration.
