About this artwork
“The Big Picture” is a beach scene rendered with bold simplicity and sweeping space. The lower portion of the canvas is dominated by a black palm tree shadow cast across the sand, creating a crisp, graphic foreground. Behind it, the ocean occupies roughly 20% of the canvas, calm and dark, functioning as a quiet threshold between land and horizon.
Above the waterline, the sky becomes the main stage of the composition. A vivid sunset glows across the… mid-to-lower sky, with clouds sitting about halfway up the painting. Past the clouds, the atmosphere transitions into a deepening dark blue that grows darker toward the top, until it opens into a night sky where stars are visible. The progression from sunset brightness to star-filled darkness creates a sense of time expanding and distance stretching.
The title and vision behind the work are intentional: the painting is meant to provide perspective of the vastness around us
