About this artwork
I live in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve in West Mecklenburg, Germany. It's an ancient cultural landscape characterized by large fields, meadows, tree avenues, and solitary trees. The two oak trees are actually two views of a tree that stands in the neighboring village. The oak is ancient, partially hollow, and stands by the side of the road, so I often drive past it. I've drawn and painted it several times because it has such a special, expressive…
formal language. In my paintings, I take care to preserve the form as much as possible and to create abstraction, especially in the color composition.

« The inner man cannot appear to himself without magic. »
Matthias Bargholz is an artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Brazil. In addition, his art has been featured in publications such as the Ostsee Zeitung and the Hagenower Kreisblatt. Originally inspired by classical modernism, Bargholz views the line as an independant and active element in a composition, as well as being "the direct expression of intuition and the infinite possibilities of form". His distinctive pieces are created with acrylics and oils on canvas.
