About this artwork
For over 30 years I have lived and worked as a freelance painter in the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve in West Mecklenburg,
Germany. During the 2019 Christmas season we had a few days of snow and wonderful winter weather. The sky was blue, the snow was blinding and the sun made blue shadows on it. In the evening the sky and shadows slowly turned purple...The picture comes from a small series that I spontaneously painted at the time to capture these… impressions.
At the edge of my garden there is a meadow that leads to a small valley through which a stream flows. On the slope is the old orchard with apple and pear trees that painted their shadows on the snow...

« The inner man cannot appear to himself without magic. »
Matthias Bargholz is an artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Brazil. In addition, his art has been featured in publications such as the Ostsee Zeitung and the Hagenower Kreisblatt. Originally inspired by classical modernism, Bargholz views the line as an independant and active element in a composition, as well as being "the direct expression of intuition and the infinite possibilities of form". His distinctive pieces are created with acrylics and oils on canvas.
