About this artwork
A fish emerges in relief, its body constructed from wrinkled and hardened fabrics in incandescent shades of orange and gold, with a natural green stone eye that seems to stare intently. Around it, a seabed of granules, pebbles, and netting suggests the depths in which it is trapped, suspended among blues, pinks, and flashes of light.
Stagnant speaks of the feeling of being stuck, trapped in a place from which there is no escape: the fish out of… its current, stranded, motionless despite its color and strength. There is beauty and confinement at the same time; chromatic vitality and, simultaneously, the forced stillness of that which does not move forward.
Conceived using MEGON's characteristic material language, the work integrates real materials—fabrics, stones, netting, minerals—in high relief. Its three-dimensional, tactile surface changes with the light, giving the figure an almost organic life.
I paint because I don't know how to express myself any other way. I am a self-taught artist whose life has revolved around painting since childhood; I explore media such as oil, graphite, encaustic, collage, sculpture, and found objects. I work in hyperrealism and abstract expressionism, fusing meticulous detail with the freedom of impasto art, incorporating stones and fabrics into my realistic works to give them meaning. My creations convey a powerful strength and resilience, seeking empathy and visibility for the suffering of children, women, animals, and nature, inviting the viewer to discover themselves and heal through art.
