About this artwork
Contemplation 6 is part of my Marine Reveries series, where the works, both semi-abstract and bordering on impressionist figurative, are inspired by the colors and atmospheres of the Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic coast where I have always lived. Here, the light is constantly changing and offers the eye landscapes full of softness and poetry where the colors blend and intermingle. The horizon line is never very defined, the water and the sky merge… and the clouds play with their reflections on the sea. It is a landscape of whites and blue-grays in constant transformation and perpetual movement that encourages reverie and escape. A landscape in which one feels good and which one looks at with serenity. Especially in the evening when the sun sets and warm hues invade the horizon.
I paint the patterns with a knife using material to accentuate the illusion of reality and use oil for its silky and warm appearance.
« The artist is this poet who colors his dreams and gives them a reality. »
Michel Saint-Luc is a French painter who has exhibited in Spain, Germany, and France. Having been born and lived close to water his entire life, Saint-Luc's works reflect his passion for seascapes. He often blurs the horizons, allowing the eye the possibility to seize and redefine it. His figurative and abstract compositions are created using knives and painted with oils on canvas or cardboard.
