This piece is an integral part of my daily artistic practice: the continuous, fascination with observing people and capturing their movement in real time. Whether working traditionally with pencils and watercolors in a physical sketchbook or sketching live on an iPad with a digital pen, my goal remains the same—to map the general attitude, gesture, and silent stories of strangers passing by.
Rather than aiming for finished portraits, these quick… studies are an analytical and spontaneous record of human presence. The loose, overlapping lines and handwritten notes on the canvas are a direct reflection of my immediate thoughts on site ('what are they doing? and how?'). It is a humble celebration of everyday body language, captured swiftly to freeze the fleeting choreography of daily life.
Monica Cid, a Portuguese artist with a background in architecture and fine arts, works across drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Her figurative yet sketchy lines are alive and spontaneous, leaving forms open to the imagination and inviting the viewer into the artwork’s flowing energy. She passionately captures transformation and the emotional presence of her subjects, conveying a sense of comfort, connection, and poetic inquiry into what it means to be truly alive.
