About this artwork
I created this work to capture the deep calm of a solitary moment on the water, using pastels and chalks to blend emotions of peace and reflection. I wanted to convey the quiet that only the sea can offer. A calm horizon opens before the eyes, where the sky and the sea merge in a symphony of shaded blues. At the center of the scene, far away and almost evanescent, a black sail stands out reflected on the still water, a symbol of solitude and inner… journey. The dark coast stretches thin, almost separating two worlds: the earthly one and the dream world. The atmosphere is rarefied, suspended between quiet and melancholy, as if time had stopped to listen to the slow breathing of the water. It is an invitation to get lost, to let yourself be lulled by the deep silence of nature.
Monica Mauriello is a self-taught artist who works with a wide range of techniques and materials, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pouring, and pencil drawing. Her artistic production is placed in the field of abstract contemporary art, but also includes figurative works, especially portraits and landscapes.
Through a personal and constantly evolving style, she explores the depths of emotional experience, translating feelings, moods and desires into shapes and colors. Her abstract works are true interior journeys, conceived to reveal what lies beyond appearances and stimulate a sensorial and emotional connection with the observer. Alongside the abstract dimension, her figurative drawings represent a synthesis between observation of reality and not only artistic emotion, confirming her expressive and creative versatility.
