About this artwork
Grass-green, handcrafted Strenesse high heels in luxurious leather balance on nails on the wall, accompanied by the handwritten inscription "step by step". In their linear arrangement, they translate movement into stillness and allude to the beginning of every journey.
The site-specific, performative installation is a tribute to the courage to begin something new. It explores change as a fundamental experience and follows the idea that the path… only takes shape as one walks it. Everything is a process, everything is in flux.
Conceived over fifteen years ago, this work is being realized in this form only once. In its execution, it combines the original concept with the specific moment of the present.
The act of installation is part of the work and can be carried out by the artist or according to authorized installation instructions. Object and action remain deliberately open to interpretation.
The work exists as a singular entity – arising from the first step.
