About this artwork
In my work, I blend acrylic, pastel, and graphite into an abstract composition that captures a dynamic blend of passion and contemplation. The bold black and blue strokes contrast with the soft gray and pink tones. This painting inspires pause and reflection.
From delicate to powerful, pure, unadulterated, direct. Reminiscent of calligraphic marks, poised between music and space, from chaos to stillness and back again – this is the language of painting that is unique to the artist Monika Herschberger. Coming from a jazz background, her focus shifted to abstract painting in 2009, where she continues to expand her expressive repertoire. In addition to gestural, powerful, large-format paintings on canvas, the artist has been working with mixed media on paper since 2019, using pencils and pastels to penetrate areas of color and deliberately add graphic accents.
