About this artwork
This very personal work helped me a lot during a difficult time.
It also gave me the desire to fully engage in art and represents, on its own, what I want to explore: the gap that is widening between people of different genders or ethnic origins and the way in which our daily behaviors are perceived and then mimicked by our children, our future and those who make us better, thus gradually widening this gap.
Loss of a Child is the first work in… my first series: "Broken Mirrors." The Broken Mirrors series explores the silent mechanisms of the reproduction of social behaviors related to gender, domination, and origins.
Morgane Bassette Renault, originally from Guadeloupe, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist. Influenced by the Caribbean, she uses mixed media of oil painting on canvas or African and Caribbean fabrics, incorporating couture into her works. Her creations often feature faces, bodies, and symbols to represent contemporary social fault lines. Morgane explores the gaps between genders, origins, classes, and beliefs, questioning what we pass on to our children.
