About this artwork
The colors used in this painting are inspired by the French flag. White represents the monarchy, while blue and red take up the colors of the city of Paris, a sign, according to the mayor of the city, of “the august and eternal alliance between the monarch and the people”. The tricolor cockade then became a symbol of patriotism and began to flourish in buttonholes. Their mixture in the middle signifies diversity and cohesion in time and in history.
