About this artwork
Do you know this poem?
Me, I learned it with difficulty and remembered it, finally to this day I still remembered the first and two last verses. I don't know why they came back to me, I found the poem, read it and reread it and painted this canvas.
The tulip
Théophile GAUTIER 1839
I am the tulip, a flower from Holland;
And such is my beauty, that the miser Flemish
Pay one of my onions more than a diamond,
If my depths are very pure, if I… am upright and tall.
My air is feudal, and, like a Yolande
In her amply stuffed skirt with long pleats,
I wear coats of arms painted on my garment,
Gules face argent, or with crimson in band.
The divine gardener spun from his fingers
The rays of the sun and the purple of kings
To make me a dress with a soft and fine weft.
No flower in the garden equals my splendour,
But nature, alas! did not shed a smell
In my chalice made like a Chinese vase.
« The canvas becomes the skin, the body for my expression. »
Born in Armentières in northern France, she has lived in Draguignan, Var, since 1983. BACKGROUND: A nurse until 2010, when she became a professional painter. Her passions include drawing and painting, ceramics, and sculpture. She participates in numerous exhibitions and is interested in contemporary art. She has participated in many international contemporary art fairs. EDUCATION: University studies and numerous workshops in various techniques. ARTISTIC APPROACH: Primarily visual, "I seek a rich, structured, and powerful painting, where graphic design, materials, and colors are interwoven, an approach where semantics take a back seat and are reduced to the living," without socio-political pretensions or verbosity. The medium: canvas, which becomes skin, a bodily expression. The depicted element tends to disappear in favor of lived experience, my own, but also that of the viewer. Large formats are generally preferred, as they lend themselves to gestural expression.
