About this artwork
In this painting, I bring together the raw intensity of expressionism and the mystical depths of surrealism, blended through symbolic and semi-abstract forms. Employing a palette of earthy tones with vibrant oil, ink, and pigments, I evoke a scene where reality and imagination converge under a surreal sky. It's a contemplation on the ephemeral versus the eternal, meant to stir the soul of any viewer, adding a touch of profound emotion and timeless… wonder to your living space.
Oil, ink and ochre pigments from Southern France on recycled canvas. The original work created in 2015 has been reworked in 2024. The creative use of oil and ochre pigments have been layered to create texture and intense natural colour. The image is inspired by an enigmatic scene of a group of people walking along a beach. The dark figures walk away into the sunset. The intense light captures the atmosphere. The figures symbolise life and death. They may be friends or strangers, here now or passed.
My work is a visual weaving of memory, travel, culture, and imagination. Through layered mixed media, vivid color, texture, and pattern, art is a celebration of vivid color, tactile texture, and the boundless possibilities of mixed media. Drawing inspiration from my journeys across continents and my home in Andalusia, Spain, I weave together acrylics, oils, inks, found objects. Drawing inspiration from my journeys across continents and my home in Andalusia, Spain, I weave together acrylics, oils, inks, found objects, and natural ochres from Southern France to create multi-layered works that pulse with energy and depth. Each piece is an exploration of cultural beauty and mystique—a visual dialogue between East and West, tradition and innovation. I am fascinated by the stories, symbols, and emotions that emerge when materials collide and interact. My process is intuitive and experimental, often beginning with a spark from a place, a person, or a fleeting moment of wonder.
