*UNIQUE EXAMPLE
Printed in Italy - Fabriqué en Italie
The NAP - Virgin Army - silkscreens rework the classic icon through a contemporary lens, transforming the archetype of the sacred into a deliberately tense image.
Through serial silkscreening, these Military Virgins are shifted… from devotion to repetition, suspended between protection and authority in the visual system of propaganda. The duality between creation and destruction reveals an image as powerful as it is vulnerable in its contemporaneity.
The mimetic field doesn't represent conflict: it absorbs it. It is a mental space, a psychological surface and an interior territory in which the sacred icon is immersed and almost dissolved. The cracked gilding and the materiality convey a tension between ancient and contemporary.
Roberto Priolo aka NAP, born in 1990, works with traditional screen printing on archival cotton canvases and selected materials.
After graduating in design in 2021, she returned to Alba, Piedmont, where she developed her own refined artisanal printing technique, characterized by layered textures, hand-gilding, and material interventions. Normal As Possible is the artist with the slowest production on the art market. A question linked to inner growth.
Of shadow and light, his work stands out for its strong dualism between the sacred and the contemporary. Irregularities in the print, overlappings, and broken gold leaf generate visual layers that testify to his faith in the artisanal gesture, affirming his idea of art as a living, non-reproducible human act.
