About this artwork

“Hungarian Woman” is part of my series “Women of the Earth”, dedicated to the beauty and dignity of women from different cultures. I created this painting for the Arts Council Azerbaijan exhibition in collaboration with the Consulate of Hungary.
Through this image, I wanted to convey the spirit of Hungarian culture — its pride, emotional depth, and inner music. I chose a vibrant traditional costume with a richly patterned shawl and an ornate headpiece,… set against the blue evening sky of Budapest. The contrast between the calm of twilight and the vivid colors of the dress evokes the living pulse of tradition in the modern world.
In her gaze, I see both strength and tenderness. To me, she represents a woman rooted in her heritage yet looking confidently toward the future.

Nargiz Guliyeva is a painter, printmaker, and digital artist from Azerbaijan, classically trained at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts with a background in restoration and set design. She works mainly in oils on canvas in an impressionist style, expertly capturing sunlight and vibrant color to articulate both the fleeting poetry of city life and the enduring strength of women and nature. Her art radiates warmth, light, and the joyous energy of life, inviting viewers to share in moments of beauty, harmony, and inner resilience.
