About this artwork
This image is real, from a field in Argentine Patagonia.
And it's a spiderweb frozen by the frost typical of the region's icy winters. Seeing it reminded me of the dreamcatchers of the natives—perhaps it served as inspiration.
Seeing it so clearly, despite the ice covering it, prompted me to investigate the origin of this ancestral amulet of the indigenous peoples of North America. The Ojibwa were apparently the originators; they are one of the… largest tribes of the Great Lakes region, with some living in Canada and others in the United States.
There is a legend, according to which.
“Grandmother Spider is the creator of the world according to the religions and myths of Native American peoples, including the Hopi and Navajo. According to tradition, she is responsible for the stars in the sky. She took a web she had spun and tied it with dew.”
All this research resulted in painting it to show this ephemeral and magical moment.
Nelida Didolich, a graduate in Fine Arts, expresses her love for endangered animals through painting and visualization. She uses a clear, figurative style to capture moments, straightforwardly revealing the subjects she wishes to share. Through her work, she attempts to recreate the essence of reality to preserve it, conveying nostalgia and a vivid sense of connection with this vulnerable yet wonderful world.
