About this artwork
De coronaperiode was voor mij geen tijd van stilstaan, juist het tegenovergestelde. In die maanden maakte ik een enorme creatieve ontwikkeling door. De wereld was van de ene op de andere dag veranderd, en die nieuwe werkelijkheid fascineerde mij eindeloos. Mijn zoontje was toen nog jong en moest elke dag naar buiten. Tijdens onze vele uitstapjes maakte ik talloze foto’s, op een manier die anders was dan ik van mezelf gewend was. Ik fotografeerde…
stilte en vervreemding. Op een dag zagen we deze vlieger, vastgeklampt aan een boom. Hoe de kinderen (en ook de volwassenen) het ook probeerden, hij kwam niet meer los. Daardoor kon ik hem vastleggen zoals ik hem zag: als symbool voor het gevoel van de coronatijd: gevangen, maar toch zwevend in de lucht.

Nienke Koedijk is an internationally working documentary photographer and mentor. She studied Illustration and Sculpture at the Willem de Kooning Academy and specializes in Family documentary and Funeral photography. She also teaches workshops, speaks at conferences, and a photobook has been published based on one of her documentary projects.
In her Fine Art photography, Nienke captures the world as it feels. She moves through everyday environments with intuitive curiosity, drawn to moments where human presence resonates, with or without people in the frame. Without staging, she lets light, color, structure, and perspective tell the story. Her images reveal moments where the familiar shifts and something unseen emerges. They invite viewers to slow down, look deeper, and rediscover the extraordinary in what they thought they already knew.
