About this artwork
This is the third of the five compositions of the "SIEGE" series. I worked on a large-format painting on the floor, which allowed me to better connect and communicate with the painting. Experimenting with the color and the form, I was expressing myself with indefinite shapes and arbitrary coloring, which intuitively suited me at a given moment. I painted with acrylic paint, which I made from synthetic pigments and acrylic binder of different densities,…
so I manipulated the paint depending on the desired result. I tried to present the intensity and the character of a certain mood. I worked in two phases. First, I would throw out the rawest possible expression directly on the canvas, without much thinking, control, or self-criticism at that moment. I relied on intuition and the unconscious from within. In the second phase, i would rationally analyze the current situation in the painting, and finish it by reducing the excess information and purifying certain parts that were undefined.

Nikola Nikolić is a painter and sculptor with a background in fine arts, specializing in painting and exploring non-representational, expressionistic abstraction.
