About this artwork
The dance floor. An interesting, if a little odd, barometer of society. People gathering, yet split into sub sections, almost tribal, each judging the other.
An invisible barrier separate the revellers.
You're either dancing to the wrong tune, or singing off a different hymn sheets.
Most perplexing.
There's no social interaction. Indeed, the dancers don't even look at each other?
These crowded rooms have become deeply private, an antisocial… activity.
They’ve become churches of different diety's, the one you believe in, the right one, and bugger anyone who thinks differently.
Personal space is fiercely protected.
You attend a club for a deeply private, internalised, self-gratified heady experience, and woe betide anyone who gets in the way of that. Perhaps indicative of the social media culture where we live behind the security of a screen, connected to the world but in isolation, removed from society but judging it on its differences
Oliver Perry is a painter whose artistic journey began as a form of escapism from a turbulent upbringing, continuing through university and beyond. His striking works combine vibrant, colorful palettes with a compelling interplay of order and chaos, blending regimented structures with painterly expressiveness. Through his "Disco Science" and "Whisper Series," he explores themes of collective joy, human potential, and vulnerability, aiming to evoke empathy, delight, and contemplation in the viewer, while championing the unseen strength of the underdog.
