About this artwork
This artwork offers a contemporary reinterpretation of The Thinker, exploring thought as a fragmented space in constant construction. Through a dialogue between Cubism and Expressionism, the figure becomes a site of tension between structure and emotion, control and vulnerability.
Deconstructed geometric forms and bold contrasts reflect the complexity of the mental process, while the painterly gesture reveals a deep sense of introspection. Thought… is no longer static; it unfolds, collides, and transforms.
In front of him, a circular form becomes the focus of meditation, symbolizing inner reflection and the cyclical movement of thought. Resting upon his neck, a cube appears to weigh heavily, embodying the burden of matter on human existence.
Conceived as both a visual and mental experience, this work invites the viewer to question their own relationship with silence, time, and the act of thinking, situating the space within a distinctly contemporary dynamic.
Oscar Green, a multidisciplinary artist from Benin who grew up in France, explores painting, printmaking, photography, and video, drawing on his family heritage and diverse collaborations to enrich his work. His art is characterized by a contemporary figuration that blends outsider art, neo-expressionism, urban art, and lyrical abstraction. Even when working with acrylics or oils, Oscar often revisits certain areas with oil pastels, adding texture, depth, and intensity to enhance the gesture or reveal new dimensions within the work. His creations, centered on the human presence and the face, evoke a powerful emotion, reflecting a universal quest for love, listening, and connection, and inviting the viewer to perceive the essential beauty of life.
