About this artwork
I arch my back like a refuge,
your warm breath on my chest,
Two bodies, yours and mine, that remember once having been one.
I will keep you warm and be your nest.
You don't ask me who I am or whether I am suitable to be your mother.
And yet our circle is not closed. A threshold remains.
a sliver of light so you can breathe,
so that you can break free when you want to crawl out into the world,
and find your way back when the world scares… you.
My body is not a prison, but a safe haven.
My name is Paola, I'm Italian, and I've lived in Germany for over ten years. Thanks to my father, a self-taught artist, I've been surrounded by art since childhood. I grew up surrounded by the scent of oil painting, with colorful hands and a heart full of curiosity. After art school, I studied cultural and monument preservation. But here's the paradox: in a country like Italy, full of art, there seemed to be no room for it. I came to Germany in search of a new beginning. Without a plan, but with hope. Here I found professional fulfillment, family happiness, and, during motherhood, a return to painting: without pressure to perform, without expectations. I found my form of expression in acrylics. Between minimalism and abstraction, predominantly monochromatic. My art has no purpose. It explains nothing, it teaches nothing. And yet, it often reflects—alone—my own inner themes.
