About this artwork
Beneath the Surface belongs to the Thresholds series, a pictorial research dedicated to the subtle boundaries between what appears and what remains hidden.
The composition is constructed on a broad atmospheric field of layered grays, crossed by a horizontal line that suggests a threshold, a point of transition between different levels of perception. Beneath this silent surface, a trace of red emerges, like a restrained energy slowly emerging from… the material.
The work explores the moment when something invisible begins to manifest itself: an emotion, a memory, a presence that takes shape beneath the visible surface.
The textured paint and overlapping glazes create a suspended depth, inviting the gaze to linger in the space between stillness and transformation.
Paola Morandi, with a basic training in acrylics, oils and watercolors, explores the artistic language. Using acrylic for semi-abstracts and watercolor for representations of nature, his style is synthetic but never hyper-realistic, with preferences for impressionism. Morandi's works, inspired from within and without herself, emanate the blazing interludes between nature and humanity, rich in palpable emotions.
