The work aims to reproduce in sculpture what in photography would be a zoom-in on the hands, legs, and posture of a group of travelers seated side by side, thus leaving the viewer free to imagine their faces, expressions, and gazes. The four sculptures are made of terracotta, then painted after the cold firing with oil paints. The seat is made of Plexiglas, mounted on a wooden pedestal with steel supports.
Paolo Cristiani, born in Milan in 1956, is an engineer and General Manager of a biomedical research consortium. A professional photographer in the 1980s, he uses photography, painting, and sculpture to explore the human journey and the emotions of places of transit, drawing inspiration from Calvino's literature. His techniques range from photographic realism to figurative painting and wood and terracotta sculpture, always seeking to capture moments of life and personal feelings. His works convey profound moments of anticipation and introspection, inviting the viewer to share universal emotions in the most diverse places around the world.
