This artwork is the centrepiece in the series ‘A Finding Place’.
I was inspired by a journey starting in Greece, through Spain, France, Austria, Germany, and ending in Denmark in 2024. In the seemingly familiar landscape of European cities, precarity and the imaginal charge of thresholds felt immense.
“Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal” by Jeanette Winterson accompanied my journey. There she refers to the creative process as “a finding place”,… (an anagram of “finding a place” also).
Observing fragmentation and uncertainty, alongside endurance, potentiality and transformational thresholds in a time where “We have no idea what happens next”, I collected and processed materials and impressions through various mediums (free-press, brochures, photography, video, writing). In my process of examining high fluidity, belonging and the life-story, travel acted as a paradoxical container where the rigid routine and dominion dissipate, revealing what is essential and even eternal.

Paraskevi Papagianni is a multimedia artist with a background in art psychotherapy, contemporary art practice, and socially engaged art, working across photography, collage (analogue and digital), video collage, and writing. She weaves poetic, urban, and surreal styles, blending tender observation with eerie, dreamlike juxtapositions and liminal spaces, often through spontaneous yet sometimes research-driven techniques. Her work invites viewers to embrace paradox, reimagine reality, and find hope and curiosity within complexity, offering an emotionally rich exploration of belonging, strangeness, and unconscious narratives.
