About this artwork
August 15, 2023, a terrible fire broke out in the mountains of Tenerife. Many images on social media and the discovery of remains of burnt pine bark in front of my house in Santa Cruz have inspired me to create artworks related to the fire that combine one of the concepts of Japanese aesthetics called Monono Awaré that reminds us of the sad truth: nothing remains as is for ever and everything will disappear one day. Furthermore, it tells us that… with this reality, emotional sensitivity such as compassion, empathy, and sad beauty will always be attached to it.
Therefore, in my recent artworks I tried to express the Monono Awaré that is felt in various fires. Noh masks are attached to all the works to add more emotions.
* The Noh mask is used by actors dancing in traditional Japanese Noh theater
