About this artwork

This work draws inspiration from traditional Japanese bird-and-flower paintings and classical screen compositions, reinterpreted through a vivid contemporary palette. The cranes, long associated in Japanese culture with longevity, harmony, and renewal, are placed within a dreamlike pink landscape that transforms a peaceful natural scene into an emotional and almost surreal atmosphere.

I wanted viewers to feel a sense of quiet contemplation and fragility.… The relationship between the parent birds and their young reflects themes of protection, continuity, and the delicate balance between nature and time. The intense pink tones create a contrast between serenity and emotional intensity, giving the traditional imagery a contemporary presence.

The painting was created on an antique traditional Japanese hanging scroll dating from the early 20th century, allowing the work to physically connect with Japan’s artistic heritage.
