The final of the ‘set of three’ paintings created from reference pictures I took at the Easter 2024 Sorefingers Bluegrass music camp. I was struck by the energy in the room when live music was playing, colours pop out for me, and even sometimes appear when there are none. I’ve kept the style for this work very loose, the figures are not supposed to be portraits. When I created these works I listened to appropriate music while painting them.
Peter Porteous-Butler, a seasoned graphic artist, casts stories in immersive landscapes on oil and ink. His work, infused with thought-planning, bristles with expressive strokes, interrupted photorealism and emotive colourations. Fond of portraying atmospheric buildings and terrains, he often incorporates playful parodies of light, adding a haunting touch of moonlit nights or damp city streets. His works, near-manifestations of his inner self, resound with a crafted uniqueness and deep viewer connection.
