About this artwork
Der Malgrund ist die massenmediale Reproduktion von Drucksachen (Hotel-Briefpapier), die mit Ölfarbe übermalt werden, woraus sich das spätere Bild auf Leinwand Schicht für Schicht entwickelt. Weil die Bilder der Printmedien stärker sind als das wirkliche Leben und alles überlagern, ist die Übermalung eine Gegenreaktion auf die medial angefertigte Vorstellung von Realität.
Der Keilrahmen aus getrocknetem Fichtenholz (Premiumqualität) ist mehrfach… verleimt, somit verzugsfrei, hat eine Tiefe von 4,5 cm und die Arbeit wird daran aufgehängt. Zusammen mit dem Baumwollgewebe 360 g, den Farben und pigmentierten Drucken, ergibt sich eine Tiefe von 5 cm. Bei der Herstellung des Bildes finden ausschließlich hochwertige Acryl- und Ölfarben Verwendung; Außerdem echte Pigmente mit unterschiedlichen Bindern und UV Schutz. Die Seiten des Gemäldes haben Farbverläufe, entsprechen aber den Farben und dem Duktus des Bildes; deswegen bitte keine Rahmung.

« In my work, I deal with pictures that already exist and liberate them from their originally intended narration and function. »
Starting from the symbols of our society - an increasingly psychologically scrutinized communication through text and images - Peter Vahlefeld breaks up the context of such familiar obviousness with artistic means and incorporates it into his painting. Some motifs mutate into completely abstract color spaces, while other pictures still reveal objective details such as typography or figurative elements. In his overpaintings he thus stages a dialectical relationship between the visible and the hidden and thus a beautiful game of hiding and revealing. His examination is focused on the expressive gesture of the medium, the process of painting and the exhaustion of a formal and content-related motif. His painting is painting about painting.
