About this artwork
A large studio work, 30 " x 40" using acrylics with a sponge roller, sea sponge and a flat 3/4 " brush to make use of this lovely French scene as people interact and weave a story. ( Hence "secrets" series ). Making use of the medium and method for atmosphere and light and the pleasure of using impasto "plastic" strokes of paint over the thinner glazes of sponge rolled paint taking the work beyond a representation of the image but an awareness of… it's process in contemporary art. In this case, unusually, using another photographers photo and paying the licence fee as I so admired the image as having so many lovely qualities. Yet then, I hope, taking it into another creative dimension, beyond the original. Produced as a "speedfilm" in order to be able to see the whole process unfold rapidly and evolve.
« Art, especially painting, is a part of my being, and as much needed for my well-being as food! »
