About this artwork
There are moments when I just need to see animal eyes again.
After a phase in which my brushes primarily created landscapes—waves, mountains, endless expanses—I needed something different. Something playful, gentle, that looks directly at you.
And there he was: a small, curious raccoon.
His eyes—so lively and full of curiosity—immediately captivated me. I knew this would be my next subject. With every brushstroke, I tried to capture that one… moment: the childlike wonder, the feeling of connection with nature, and perhaps also a little bit of that playfulness that we all carry within us.
For this painting, I worked with my oil technique, which allows me to capture the depth and vibrancy of such a moment. Each layer of paint, each gradient, tells its own story.
I'm curious: What do you see when you look into the eyes of this little raccoon
Petra Wetzig uses mixed media techniques to create touching works of art. She combines acrylic, oil, ink and structural materials such as marble powder or limestone – allowing nature, emotion and intuition to merge together. Each work is created in a flow, often unplanned, sometimes surprising – and always full of depth. Her pictures are places of retreat: full of peace, vastness and the quiet echo of nature. For her, every work of art is a living process – characterized by a closeness to nature, curiosity and a love of experimentation. She wants to create spaces that breathe. Places where you can find peace. Her pictures are not decoration – they invite you to reconnect with what sustains you. With silence. With spaciousness. With yourself.
