About this artwork
With this work, Philippe Fares pays homage to Maurits Cornelis ESCHER, whose work, inspired by mathematics, essentially focused on explorations of infinity as well as many impossible constructions, engraved in the plan.
This tube forming a knot closes on itself, it represents the intertwining in three loops, of the same tube, frozen by a filling of epoxy cement, the ends of which are connected, once the three turns have been formed .
This sculpture… is an impossible object that refers to a complex topology.
It is the candy pink hue that makes the sculpture stand out, it contrasts sharply with the jet black color of the base.
This piece is inevitably reminiscent of the MÖBIUS ribbon, it is a closed surface, which has no end but which is not ruled.
The mathematical object is fascinating because its mystery is not easy to unravel.

Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist whose career has been profoundly shaped by the diversity of cultures and the interaction of art and science. His unique perspective, sharpened by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the art world, particularly to the influence of primitive arts. Returning to France at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western arts while pursuing scientific studies.
Philippe Fares’ artworks are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and careful planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced play with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance gives his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.
