About this artwork
In this work, I have used acrylics and pigments to explore the ephemeral and fragile nature of human existence. Each crack symbolizes the experiences that form us and break us. I wanted to capture the tension between reality and the metaphysical, between what is and what could be. Hanging this painting in your home will invite reflection and appreciation of the fleeting moments of beauty in imperfection.
The work is inspired by "The Sea of Ice",… a canvas by the 19th century romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, an artist that I have admired since my childhood. The work appears inhabited by a human presence. This tiny figure goes almost unnoticed in the eyes of the real viewer, who faces the work from a certain distance “of respect.” Thus, the observer will resemble a God who contemplates his creation from above; and the “little observer” will become, in turn, an “observed observer.”
« If one thing is clear to me in those moments, it is that creation responds to my life, and my life responds to creation. »
Pin Vega is an award-winning painter, sculptor and photographer whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Portugal, Belgium as well as in his native Spain. His Pictosculptures, as he calls them, are found in different collections around the world and have created a trend. His art brings to life the 'invisible forces of Mother Nature', using natural elements to produce a 'new natural reality'. Pin Vega makes and carves the supports and frames for his own paintings. He also makes his own paints by agglutinating top-quality pigments with water or different types of resins and incorporates mineral elements and scaled figures to oversize his work and make us, the viewers, feel like we are contemplating it like a God contemplating his creation from above.
