The Father's Burden
Upon his weary shoulders broad,
He lifts his world, his love, his all.
His children rest, their faces bright,
Unaware of his silent fight.
A father's strength, a steady guide,
Carries the weight he cannot hide.
Each step he takes, though slow and long,
Is bound with sacrifice, steadfast and strong.
Beneath him lies the cube, the ground,
His homeland, firm and square, profound.
The roots from which his journey starts,
A symbol… of the heart he guards.
He walks for them, through storm and strife,
Bearing the burdens of their life.
Yet in his eyes, a quiet grace,
For in their smiles, he finds his place.
Though heavy is the load he bears,
His love endures, and so he dares
To carry dreams upon his frame—
A father’s gift, without a name.
And so, with homeland at his feet,
He marches on, through cold and heat.
The weight of life upon his back,
Yet never does he break or lack.

Qais Al Sindy is an Iraqi-American multi-media artist versed in painting, installation, video, conceptual and performance art. His multi-cultural background directly involved the analytical vision of his work. In his paintings, Al Sindy explores how people connect to each other across divides of belief, both political and spiritual. He hopes his art will enable people share their unique experiences, opening new avenue to consolidate concepts of peace, hope and love.
