About this artwork

Every winter, the cold creeps through every street corner, every street with fragile leaves, bare under the cold wind. It is also the season of Christmas, of a tender, painful nostalgia for the old winter of youth.
That Christmas season, I walked alone in the freezing cold of the glorious Holy Night. The streets of Hanoi were packed with people. Many couples in love join the stream of people flocking to celebrate Christmas on each street of Hanoi… Cathedral. .. The carnival song "Jinggle Bells" is heard everywhere. Hanoi Cathedral is full of flowers, this is where I made an appointment to meet you. Two innocent souls walking side by side quietly speechless. That day, my friend and I stood outside and looked through the church window. Even though I am a pagan, my eyes are also turned to God, silently praying to God to bless us forever. That day was very crowded, I still remember we were lost. And now it becomes a memory, a memory of youth.

Quan Le is an artist based in Vietnam whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. He is currently living and working in Hanoi. For nearly eighteen years of oil painting, he paints what his heart can feel, not what eyes can see. Most of them are in an exciting impressionist style, with a blend of cubism, expressionism and semi-abstract contemporary. The themes of landscapes, architecture and urban areas are simpliﬁed to a certain extent, leaving most of it for memory. For him, painting is when he digs up the chaotic and fragmented memories of his poor, rugged and destitute childhood to bring the viewers to another joyful world, a neverland, a memory of the season far away.
