About this artwork
This series explores the duality of the human being, the coexistence of light and dark within all of us. In this work I wanted to capture the complexity of human emotions and the fragility of our existence. Using a combination of image transfer techniques and mixed media elements, I tried to convey a feeling of rawness and vulnerability in the painting.
Fracti" reflects the idea that we are all broken in some way, with scars and wounds that we… carry with us all our lives. But in this brokenness there is also strength and resistance. The image transfer technique used in the painting is also a metaphor of the human condition.By transferring images to canvas, I wanted to represent the way our experiences and memories are imprinted on us, shaping who we are and who we become.
Raúl Lara is a Spanish artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, in the United States, Portugal, France, and the United Kingdom. He describes his art as a search for the representation of who we are in contrast to what others see, in comparison with what we know about ourselves. Lara's recent figurative compositions explore identify and portray the interior self, as well as the self that is shown to others and the world.
