About this artwork
In this painting, I poured my memories and passion of being on a sailboat in the Atlantic actually even though this is part of my ocean rock series the colors were the same when I was on a sailboat and the waves were so sky high and you had no control and all you did was watch the waves in the sky to the side of the boat and pray that you would navigate through the waves properly and hang on dear life. There’s something exhilarating about the waves… and this was an abstract interpretation on a very misty day and some of those days you can see a little spice of color here and there and you don’t even know where it’s from!! Walking along the ocean can really trigger memories from other oceans and that’s what happened to me.
Rebecca Both is a painter with a strong academic background, honed since high school and refined at the American Art Academy. Her intuitive process combines the spontaneous movement of pigment with tools like trowels and oversized palette knives, while she also masters painstakingly realistic commissions. She explores natural themes, particularly the ocean, creating art that evokes reflection, joy, and revelation—inviting viewers to see and feel the world in ways they hadn’t considered before.
