About this artwork
This work is inspired by the indigenous belief about Power animals. For the indigenous Shamans of the American continent, the Jaguar, or Leopard, is an animal that grants the power of vision. That is why they invoke it in their rituals, to increase their power of vision and thus request the spirit of the jaguar to increase the power to see what is veiled as human beings. The Jaguar is an animal that can see perfectly at night, and it is within its…
beliefs that it also has the ability to connect both the spiritual and the earthly worlds. Therefore it not only carries with it the power of vision, but also acts as a protector, chasing away any stranger who may be a threat to him since he has the ability to see beyond his own eyes. I too have wanted to invoke the spirit of this animal through painting.
