About this artwork

"Homage To Matisse" is a commissioned painting completed in the studio as an abstracted replica of a work completed by Henri Matisse, titled "Still Life With Oranges", 1899.

"Homage To Matisse" is commissioned by a Collector interested in the colors and forms of a painting I previously produced, titled "Oranges From Matisse", sold to a Collector in the United States.

As a colorist, Matisse is a magician.

One day in the studio, I decided to… intently study the colors and forms of a Matisse painting that always struck a chord with my intentions in painting. Also, I was striving for modest, progressive changes in the the dynamics of my work.

This painting employs paints from Zecchi Colori, Florence, in primary/secondary colors with large blocks emanating a seeming counter clock-wise movement. Oranges and reds move freely across the central surface.

The painting stands as a finished contemporary abtract artwork.
