About this artwork
Russet was painted at the height of the Fall season, plein air, at Fruitlands Museum, Harvard, MA, as Artist in Residence, overlooking a wide valley toward the White Mountains.
“Russet states the colors of Fall in the rolling hills and valleys of central Massachusetts. The painting is three dimensional in the “push pull" theories of Hans Hoffmann with a hint of figuration at the upper right violet.
Aerial perspective is at work in the canvas as… the eye moves from bottom to top and in a continuous clockwise circling motion interrupted by a mid band of ridges.
Russet is color field orange in the Color Wheel Series
« Fight through the storm. The sun will surely appear in radiance. »
