About this artwork
In this work, I have captured the power and grace of the African wilderness. Using acrylics, charcoal, and colored pencils, I create a vibrant tension between the majestic elephant and the powerful tiger. The realistic depiction makes the animals seem almost alive and fills any room with a dynamic, energetic atmosphere full of freedom and adventure.
Rolf Knie (born 1949), scion of the legendary Swiss Knie circus dynasty, uses painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture on unusual materials such as original circus tent canvases. His style is characterized by expressive lines, intense colors, and a masterful feel for psychological nuances; he blends authentic observation with artistic freedom, with circus scenes always remaining at the heart of his work. His pieces impressively convey the full spectrum of human emotions—from exuberant joy to quiet melancholy—and invite viewers to experience the poetry, dignity, and vulnerability of the circus ring.
