This pencil sketch depicts a large-scale portrait of Pablo Picasso, measuring 23 1/2 inches high by 17 1/2 inches wide. Created in 1972 when I was 18 1/2 years old, this piece is a study rather than an original work; it is a careful copy drawn from a photograph in a Time-Life book.
The sketch serves as an exercise in developing accuracy and attention to detail in my drawing skills. While it may lack creativity, it reflects my dedication to improving… my craft at a very young age. In a similar vein, I also created a large-format pencil portrait of Albert Einstein, producing four versions to assess my progress in draftsmanship over time. This work represents a significant step in my artistic journey.
