About this artwork
Through this acrylic piece, I captured the majestic rhythm of arches and columns, blending realism with an oriental spirit. I aimed to evoke the serene harmony and timeless beauty of the space, inviting you to step into history and feel its tranquil energy brighten your surroundings. This monumental church in Cordoba was successively a Roman temple, Visigothic church, Mosque (=Mezquita, from the 8th century) and Catholic Cathedral (from the 13th…
century). In the 8th century temporarily partly Muslim and partly Catholic. The double arches come from the Muslims. Now both Christian and Moorish elements (such as a house of prayer). Andalusia was a important source of inspiration for the Dutch graphic artist Esscher. See his repetitive patterns, which are related to the Arabic repetitive geometric figures.
