About this artwork
Between Light and Balance" explores the tension between buoyancy and gravity, calm and density. Floating, organic forms drift across the surface, some held aloft in a lighter, open space, others settling into a darker, heavier field below. The horizontal divide creates a quiet pause. A moment where movement slows and the eye lingers between two states. Soft blue tones and subtle pink highlights bring a sense of air and lightness, while the textured… black lower section anchors the composition with depth and weight. The contrast between the rhythmic background marks above and the worked, scraped surface below adds a physical presence to the painting, inviting closer inspection. The work is influenced by my ongoing fascination with the balance between movement and stillness, ease and resistance, light and dark.
The artwork was painted on un-stretched canvas, with a 6 cm border left for stretching onto a canvas frame.
Samantha Malone is a contemporary abstract artist originally from Australia's beautiful east coast, currently residing in Tel Aviv, Israel with her family. She is a self-taught visual artist working in mixed media abstraction. Her artistic style is rooted in geometric abstraction with hints of cubist-inspired forms. She works by layering mediums and structured mark-making, which she combines methodically yet intuitively. Her art provokes sensations of unity and emotional flux, ultimately inviting viewers to find themselves in her abstract creations.
"I love abstract painting. It’s where I find the most joy and freedom. It’s my way of expressing my emotions and thoughts, turning shapes, colors, and layers into something meaningful. It’s both an escape and a way to make sense of the world, bringing clarity and a deep sense of fulfillment."
