Yazdegerd III: The End of an Empire and the Beginning of an Era
This series forms part of an artistic project inspired by the Shahnameh, a literary masterpiece that has preserved human stories, aspirations, conflicts, triumphs, and losses across centuries. Rather than reproducing historical miniatures, these works seek to reinterpret them, transforming pages from the manuscript into contemporary visual narratives that carry the spirit of the past… into the present.
Created with mixed media, natural coffee pigments, and visual elements inspired by Persian miniature traditions, the series includes a reproduced page from the original text itself. By bringing text and image together, the works bridge the distance between history and memory. Ancient illustrations become new frameworks for storytelling, while the figures and events evolve into reflections on power, destiny, faith, and the historical transformations that shape civilizations.
Seema Alabdulhai, with a background in interior architectural design and a passion for conceptual installation and painting, creates artworks infused with profound philosophical inquiry. She employs a restrained palette of black, white, and coffee tones, seamlessly integrating materials like rope and clothespins to immerse viewers physically and emotionally. Her style balances structural simplicity and symbolic richness, exploring contradiction, transformation, and the thresholds of happiness. Through her evocative compositions, she conveys an invitation to quietly reflect on the dualities of existence and to seek meaning within the silences of everyday life.
