About this artwork
A large vortex of dark petals and blue droplets encircles an ochre-colored female figure, kneeling, as if poised at the heart of a living organism. From her womb flows a red stream that unfolds in arabesques, and within this current appears a small, pale, almost celestial body. Everything moves: membranes, cells, ovule foliage—a choreography of life in gestation.
I wanted to talk about medically assisted reproduction not as a cold, impersonal device,… but as an intimate cosmogony. I paint the desire that organizes matter, the technology as a channel—this red ribbon—through which hope flows. Between nature and laboratory, I seek an image of origin: a birth accompanied, illuminated, but still and always mysterious.
Serge Dumez, a painter and draftsman, began his artistic career with pencil drawing and pastel. His technique fuses the elegance of drawing and the vivacity of pastel, manifesting a predilection for deconstructed representations through cubism. By exploring human relationships in his works, Dumez conveys deep feelings and complex ideas.
