About this artwork
The painting unfolds a scene that combines the allure of gambling with the shadow of danger. The green table turns into an arena where cards, money, whiskey, and a cigar — symbols of human passions — come together. Here, one can sense the spirit of the game: victories and losses, generosity and downfall, fleeting euphoria and hidden disappointment.
The still life is both vivid and unsettling: every detail — from the Jack Daniel’s bottle to the scattered… banknotes — reminds us that pleasure always comes at a price. This work does more than capture a frozen moment of an evening; it reveals a deeper message: human life often resembles a game, where chance and choice are tightly intertwined, and the outcome is never predictable.
« Looking to solve the problems of modern painting in order to show what we stand for in this society and how painting makes us think about our being. »
